Design Wall Monday - October 31, 2011

I've wanted to make this Halloween Table Runner for my table this year.  It wasn't to be.  Today is Halloween and I've started the table runner.  I'm using one charm pack from Moda  -  "Scaredy Cat" of 33 charms.  This cute table runner will use all of the squares.  Easy sewing and I want to quilt with some Halloween embroidery outlines.

Stash Report – Week 44

I’ve been missing since early July.  Excuses – None, I was out having fun!    We had a road trip to Texas.  I did do some fabric shopping and if you go back through the blog pages you can see the goodies I purchased.  Remember, buy it if you like it or when you go back to buy it, you know it will most likely be gone.    Home in August and the weather was great, I was outside, I should have been doing more sewing, but is was soooo nice outside.  September, I did get started sewing again,  started new projects, I’ve such a list UFO’s.  I need to join a WIP group.

These came this week, it is the "Bittersweet" collection.  They are pretty Autumn colors.   I let my fingers do the walking the week before.  I've been down, we were to go Montana hunting but I took a trip to the Emergency room instead.  I'm getting back to old self and next week hope to get more stitching done.

Stash Report - Week 42

A trip to Kathy's Sewing Studio was in order this week.  I really only wanted some Black Fairy Frost  for the OESD Christmas Silhouette quilt I'd like to make.  (now I've changed my mind about that!)   I also wanted to get some Autumn fabrics (I have almost no Autumn/Fall fabrics - - - really I didn't go overboard)  for sewing while we are in Montana.  Kathy's fabric prices are very low so I like to check and see if she has any of the basics that I need.

I know, I should be sewing . . .

I know, I know, I should be sewing.  I would like to be sewing, but I'm not.  Derin said something to me this week about how all the kitchen hot pads had shrunk.   They are too thick now he says to grip plates and some pots with.  He doesn't really like the hot pads you buy in stores or the quilted hot pads that I could make.   And I think he is right, they don't last like these terry cloth woven loop.   I used to buy the nicest, thick terry loops from a vendor at Sew Expo.    Make the old fashioned woven hot pads.   Now I've been told that vendor has retired.  So I searched the web and found these.  Not as thick as the loops I used to get . . .but they seemed to work.  We will see how long they will last.  I ordered the variety of colors and white.  I like the clean look of white in the kitchen.   So I'm making terry hot pads - and making hot pads and making more.    Guess what,  I ended up with 52 hot pads.  Should carry us thru many years.

Old hot pads

Now can I get back to my sewing studio?

Down to the barn

It was a nice evening.  I grabbed my camera to take pictures of the dogs.  I think they know when I have the camera in my hands.  I shot about 30+ shots with blurry movements - now why can't they stay still for just a moment for me?  Maybe it is me not holding steady, wait you mean I should stand still to take their pictures.  I did get two pictures, not really very good, but I deleted the rest.

Dixie, Derin and Bobby in the background.   I cut off Derin's head - sorry honey, I'm still learning (that's my excuse and sticking with it.  Bobby on the right.

Pear tree on the left is just about ready to be picked,   The apple tree is almost ready too.

Look.  It's Tucker.  He's my big pretty boy.  He doesn't mind as much about having his picture taken.  Already in early October he is starting to "hair-up"  for the winter.  He'll be a fuzzy guy soon.

Behind Tucker you can see our neighbors house.

Show and Tell - October

These are pictures from the Bernina Software Club that I teach at Bernina Northwest in Seattle.

Free standing lace.

Maxine E. made the embossed towels on the right as a gift.

Kathy C. made these five pretty tablerunners.  The Halloween tablerunner is so much fun!

The batiks are really pretty too!.

Kathy C. used fall colors here.

Dorothy T. brought in these beautiful Christmas wall hangings that she made as gifts.  She did one set in blue and one in red.  We made these several years ago in Software and Embroidery Club learning about multi-hooping and applique.

This neat quilt is all made of small 2 1/2" squares, even the border!  I wish I had gotten better pictures so you could see the lineal quilting done with stitch #17.

Berta B. brought in this beautiful wall hanging/table runner she got as a gift.

Pat H. made the pretty floral quilt on the left.

Virginia S. made these beautiful  quilts on the right and below.

Maxine E. made this cute gecko wall hanging from Software Sampler this year.

These are some of the designs that have been embroidered for the quilt. You can see some of the different colorways that have been used.

Maxine E. and Kathy C. made these blocks and the Chloe Quilt.
