Design Wall Monday - November 28, 2011

Ony a few seams actally got sew last week, so this is still on my design wall.   I'll get back to sewing Thursday, with Tuesday and Wednesday already scheduled with working and already a Christmas Party! 

This pattern would also be a great quick table-runner for Christmas or a Winter theme.

Stash Report - Week 48

I'm ever hopeful that I'll get more sewing done than I sometimes do.  That was the case this past week.  Although  I did get a some sewing done, I wanted to do more, but unfortunately it didn't happen.  So not enough done this week  to count any fabric out, and I didn't buy any fabric even though I was at one of my favorite fabric stores for the big Black Friday Sale.    However, I did purchase these cute decorator trunks that I can use for storage in the sewing studio.   With Thanksgiving Holiday week, and the I think the stitches in my mouth bothered me more than I expected, I think it all went pretty well.  The house looked nice, we got our baking done, made lots of good food and had a wonderful time visiting with the family over the weekend.

Design Wall Monday - November 21, 2011

We received this fat eight of pretty shades of blue (you wouldn't know it from this picture)  Robert Kaufman star fabric for our Stray Threads Block Lotto in December.  I found this pearlized looking fabric in my stash to make the 12" finished star block.  I think it looks pretty good.  Just need to have it done for December 1st.  If I'm lucky and have enough fabric, I might be able to make two blocks to turn in.

Stash Report - Week 47

I hope to spend some time in the sewing studio this next week, even just a little bit of time sewing.  Yes, we are having a big Thanksgiving dinner this year with family - 8 people coming to stay with us for the holiday weekend.  We always look forward to having everyone during the holidays.  We try to keep things simple and not over do so we have time to spend with everyone.  I'm so lucky that Derin is a really good cook and I enjoy helping him. 

I can't believe that there are only a few weeks left before the end of the year.  This has been an interesting year to see how much fabric I buy and stash away.  I'm planning on doing the Stash Busting again next year.  Maybe my numbers will be better and I'll finish more projects.  Since I'm feeling better and hope to continue to improve, I hope to get allot more done.

I did buy some fabrics this week that were at such good prices I couldn't resist.  I'm not really sure how to count them since the pieces are small sample sizes.  So I'm calling it In at 5 yards.  I did get enough of a project done that I'm going to count yardage Out for that part of the project too.

Design Wall Monday - November 14, 2011

I'm slowly working on this Halloween Table-Runner.  The bad news I've not had much time to sew, the good news is this will be done for Halloween 2012.  The pattern is "Sammy's Mom's ONE Charm Pack Table Runner" by Deb Brooks.  Deb has given me permission to post her instructions.  So I'm going carefully and taking pictures to go with - something to watch for.

One again I didn't get to spend much time in the sewing studio during this week.   Between Dr. appointments and teaching the sewing and embroidery didn't happen the way I had planned.    I got a few seams sewn and uggg I got to ripit, ripit, ripit too.     The good news is I did not add any fabric to my stash.

Show and Tell - November

These are pictures from the Bernina Software Club that I teach at Bernina Northwest in Seattle.

Pat H. made these two quilts.   The quilt on the left is Western Washington Shop Hop 2010.  Pat makes all of her "shop hop" quilts.  The quilt on the right is a baby quilt that Pat makes for every new baby in her church.  It is called Tool Box.











Maxine E. made these quilts.  The quilt on the left is a very cute Hennietta Whiskers from Bunny Hill designs.  The Quilt on the right is a pretty Christmas quilt "Snow Kissed Stars" from McCalls Quilting Nov/Dec 2011 issue.

 Maxine finished her Chloe Quilt.  Isn't it beautiful?  She made pillowcases using the Chloe embroidery designs.

 Maxine digitized the embroidery designs for these towels.  They are going to be gifts.  The light colored towels look beautiful with embossed monogram embroidery.









Dorothy T. is starting to work on the Black and White Dreams quilt from Jenny Haskins Galleria of Machine Artistry and Quilting.  This  is block #1 - Wicker Basket #3.  She is adapting the blocks to use with her artista 730E.  Just Beautiful!

I didn't get as much sewing done as I would have liked this week.  The weather was sunny most of the  week but freezing at nights, with our first light frost of the year.   I was a good girl this week and didn't purchase any fabric.   I have projects going and I've actually pulled some fabrics from my stash.  Sometimes I wonder how many others of you have multiple projects they are working on at the same time.

What's that in my pie?

What's that doing in my pie?  Derin hates it when the pie filling runs out of the vents cut into the pie crust.  So we got a Pie Bird to try with our pies.  Kinda cute don't you think?   But it does make the top pie crust harder to get on with no tears or rips. 

A "Pie Bird" is a hollow ceramic device, designed to release steam to keep a pie from boiling over, was traditionally used by English bakers as early as 1800's.  The fancy Pie Birds didn't take on the bird forms until migrating to the States in the 1930s.  Inspired by the nursery rhyme "Sing a Song of Sixpence" -   Four and 20 black birds, baked in a pie.  Pie Birds are sometimes also know as Pie Vents, Pie Whistle, Pie Funnel or Pie Chimney.  They also help to support the pastry crust in the center of the pie, so it does not sag.  Pie Birds can cost anywhere from $5 to $3,000 for collectors.

First Frost - Autumn Pictures

With the first frost I always feel like Fall is really here.  When we woke this morning everything was frosty.  Not a heavy frost, just sorta frosty.  And it felt so cold.  Just freeeezing!   Time to get those last few apples off the trees.
