Design Wall ~ Monday, May 14, 2012

Not much done this week, but this is my sample for the Super Sew Day on May 5th.  Actually, I forgot to take a picture of this cute little wristlet last week, so I'm week late with getting it posted.

The wristlet was fun to make.  It is all done in the embroidery hoop on the B~830.  Imported the sewing stitches for quilting, raw edge applique and initials.

Design Wall Monday - March 12, 2012

I've been getting ready to start working on Libby Lehmans Pinata Quilt.   I found some more had dyed fabrics in my stash that I can use.   I need to get some blocks embroidered for my Holly Jolly Quilt.  It is going to be so very cute.  I've finally decided to keep it all red-work rather than multi-colored work for the embroidered blocks.  Sigh, I'll have to redo this block.

Design Wall Monday - March 5, 2012

I'm now working on Libby Lehmans Pinata Quilt.  I'm also going back and forth on my Holly Jolly Quilt.   I didn't make any deadlines this week for posting.  I hope to do better next week.

Design Wall Monday - February 6, 2012

This fabric is for two in-the-hoop bags made on my 830 using the jumbo hoop.  I'm going to use variegated red thread for the quilting motif on one of the bags and two colors, variegated red and solid red thread for the other.  The quilting motifs will be on the navy blue fabric and the red polka-dot is the trim.  I think it will look nice.

Design Wall Monday - January 16, 2012

The Halloween table runner and Chloe Quilt with the geese blocks are waiting on me.  I haven't forgot either project, both project are bugging me to get back to them.  But I'm going to start on something else now, and hopefully they will both get back into the sewing line up soon.

Magic in the Air

This cute little Christmas Wall hanging is what I'm going to start making next. I've gone through my Christmas and Winter fabrics and I have found enough fabric to make this applique project with out going to the fabric store. Yippee - using some of that "collection" of fabric I have! It is called Magic in the Air . . . Wall Hanging. You can find the free instructions at BerninaUSA. It uses the OESD Magic in the Air Premier Embroidery Collection #016. The designs also include the CutWork files for the applique. Cool, huh. Just an idea - you could also make your own seasonal wall hanging up from applique designs that you have.

Design Wall Monday - December 26, 2011

Oh dear, I want to be sewing, and I'm sad I'm not sewing.  Sweet hubby said just "Go Sew", but he doesn't do any of this tax stuff and it will still be waiting for me.  Not a fun thought!   And what is that sweet hubby doing now - making more Christmas Cookies!  OK,  DH does the majority of the cooking, and yes, he cleans the kitchen too!   I haven't wanted to deal with balancing of accounts, paying bills, filing and such.  The files are already getting full since it is close to the end of the year. But look at all of these bills, receipts and such that need to organized for December.  Generally I'm pretty good about staying up to date with these things, ugggd, but I kinda let it go this month.  So I'm biting the bullet and getting everything ready for 2012, and playing catch up today and tomorrow for the remainder of 2011.  I think I can do it in just two days.  I'd better get back at it!

Design Wall Monday - November 28, 2011

Ony a few seams actally got sew last week, so this is still on my design wall.   I'll get back to sewing Thursday, with Tuesday and Wednesday already scheduled with working and already a Christmas Party!

This pattern would also be a great quick table-runner for Christmas or a Winter theme.

Works in Progress Wednesday - November 23, 2011

Charm Square pkg.
and binding & backing fabric
Crazy week with hosting Thanksgiving dinner/family weekend - but I wouldn't trade it - and trying to get some sewing done too.  I've got this cute ONE Charm package table runner in progress by Deb B.   With Deb's permission I'm taking pictures so I can post instructions on how to make it.

Laid out and ready to be sewn together

Design Wall Monday - November 21, 2011

We received this fat eight of pretty shades of blue (you wouldn't know it from this picture)  Robert Kaufman star fabric for our Stray Threads Block Lotto in December.  I found this pearlized looking fabric in my stash to make the 12" finished star block.  I think it looks pretty good.  Just need to have it done for December 1st.  If I'm lucky and have enough fabric, I might be able to make two blocks to turn in.

Design Wall Monday - November 14, 2011

I'm slowly working on this Halloween Table-Runner.  The bad news I've not had much time to sew, the good news is this will be done for Halloween 2012.  The pattern is "Sammy's Mom's ONE Charm Pack Table Runner" by Deb Brooks.  Deb has given me permission to post her instructions.  So I'm going carefully and taking pictures to go with - something to watch for.

Design Wall Monday - October 31, 2011

I've wanted to make this Halloween Table Runner for my table this year.  It wasn't to be.  Today is Halloween and I've started the table runner.  I'm using one charm pack from Moda  -  "Scaredy Cat" of 33 charms.  This cute table runner will use all of the squares.  Easy sewing and I want to quilt with some Halloween embroidery outlines.

Design Wall Monday - July 4, 2011

My completed blocks for the Block Lotto.  I was able to make two blocks with the fabric used for the points and added my own white with white stars background and the red or blue with stars in the centers.   Fun!   I think there were enough blocks turned in to make more than 10 quilts of 12 blocks each.   Many of these quilts will be donated to the Charity Committee for American Hero quilts.

Design Wall Monday - June 27, 2011

I need to get these two blocks for the Guild's Block Lotto done this week.   It looks to be an extra busy week with two extra classes added for me to teach and the weather is fantastic, so we'll see how much sewing I get done.  I still need to work on the Chloe Quilt also, I must get started on the Flying Geese blocks.  Crack the whip!

Design Wall Monday - June 20, 2011

So much to do - I need more hours in a day for my sewing!  I'm already behind on the start of a busy week.  So get ready, here it goes.

Inside of fabric bowl
The Bernina Software Sampler project was so much fun to make.  I decided to digitized 2 more fabric bowls using pictures from last year.  The pictures are now printed on fabric for the inside of the bowl.  So they are almost ready to go.   Need to finish the bocks for the guild's Block Lotto. And then back to the Chloe quilt Flying geese blocks.

Design Wall Monday - June 13, 2011

These are the different blocks and projects on my design wall this week.

Bernina Software Sampler - June 2011

This is the project for Bernina Software Sampler for June 2011.  The project is making an embroidered fabric bowl.  This is the first time I have made an embroidery project by printing on the fabric and then embroidering on the fabric.  The printed fabric is fused to a stabilizer like Fast 2 Fuse and embroidered in the hoop with a digitized design.

Stray Thread Quilt Guild
These blocks are for the Stray Threads Quilt Guild. I think this block is the Star of Bethlehem. Using this lock I was able to make two 12" star blocks for the Block Lotto.

Chloe Quilt - Flying Geese
OK, I know I won't get back to the Chloe Quilt - Flying Geese this week.   I have 2 flying geese blocks made so far.  I need to make 63 more flying geese blocks!  Guess what, I don't like the light blue fabric that is goose part of the block.   I would rather use another green in this fabric line.  I think the problem I have with these fabrics is that there is not enough contrast, they are all medium value.  I might change the colors before I start piecing and if I do I'll cut for the Eleanor Burns method of Flying Geese - much easier than piecing on the bias.

Design Wall Monday - June 6, 2011

This is a block or two that is on my design wall for the Stray Threads Quilt Guild.  Our assignment is to make a 12" finished star block using red/white/blue strip fabric.  I added on a white-on-white star fabric for the background and a blue or red star for the center square.  I drew a block in my Bernina Quilter Embroidery Software  and printed out the rotary cutting instructions for it.  I have EQ7 but often fall back to using the Bernina Quilter because it is so easy to use.  I need to learn EQ7 because I can do more with it.

Design Wall Monday - May 30, 2011

We are making the Chloe Quilt as a BOM at our Software Club, and since I'm the instructor I need to get going with it.  So far I'm on schedule, but I would like to get ahead.   I've got the Chloe quilt all cut out.  I have one of the embroidery blocks completed and several of the embroidery design for some of the other blocks ready to go.  These are not really my "colors" but still very pretty.  I cut carefully and had fabric left over from the kit, some of the left over fabric is enough on the smaller pieces to replace a mistake but most are not.  One of things I dislike about fabric quilt kits, you get just enough, no goof-ups allowed, but I always buy extra just in case.  I have found several stores that are carrying this fabric line so I feel better if there is a mistake.
